Take the first step toward a career where you can make a positive difference in people’s lives every day with our 6-month training program in Human Services at Orleans Technical Institute. Graduate with the skills and qualifications to succeed in this rewarding profession.

Human services workers are:

  • Essential to Communities: Learn how they provide a wealth of important services to people of
    all ages, cultures, abilities, and backgrounds
  • Professional Helpers: See how the field provides social, educational, psychological and
    rehabilitative support to individuals in need
  • Social Problem-Solvers: Find out how YOU can develop the skills to work with youth, seniors,
    individuals in recovery, victims of violence, people transitioning to work and more!

Program Objective

The Human Services program teaches the skills required to enter the helping field of human services. Students learn how to work with diverse populations at risk. They also learn basic counseling skills, case management methods, and effective intervention strategies. Students learn about various populations at risk including mental health, developmental, and physical disabilities, generational welfare clients, the chronically homeless, disadvantaged youth, people with drug and alcohol addiction, life changes in aging, ex-offenders, HIV/AIDS, and refugee populations.

* Applicants must have a high school diploma or equivalent.

Employment Opportunities

Graduates are employable in entry-level positions such as case manager in workforce development, job developer, youth advocacy worker, residential aide, direct care worker, case manager aide, program aide, after care worker, life skills trainer, referral specialist, youth care worker, community support specialist, and job coach.

Career OutlookAccording to the U.S. Department of Labor, the number of social and human service assistants is expected to grow by nearly 23 percent between 2008 and 2018, which is much faster than the average for all occupations. Articulation Agreement

Graduates of this program may transfer credits toward a degree at Philadelphia University, Community College of Philadelphia, or University of Phoenix.
